"America's Wackiest Home Movies" is a Season 4 episode of Rugrats.

Characters Present[]

Synopsis[]

Stu and Drew compete with each other to see whose home movies of the Rugrats will win them $10,000 on a television show - Description from Klasky Csupo

Plot[]

Constantly feuding brothers Stu and Drew each shoot their own funny videos of their families, in hopes of winning a cash prize from a TV game show. At the same time, the Pickles family is setting up the house for a surprise party for Stu's birthday.

While Drew begins filming Angelica, Stu isn't having much success as Tommy is tricked by Angelica into thinking he will be given a quarter if he does nothing in front of his father's "clamcorder" (camcorder).

Finally, the family manages to surprise Stu at his party. However, Stu slips on one of Angelica's roller skates and collides violently with Drew, causing both brothers to fall into a large basin of water, his camcorder being electrocuted by purple smoke and get covered with birthday cake. A fallen quarter rolls to Tommy and he delightedly picks it up.

Lou, who had secretly been filming them, sends his own entry to the show. Later, he and the rest of the family and friends are invited to the show with Lou's entry being announced the winner, giving him the cash prize.

A bruised and battered Stu and Drew are in hospital watching from their beds. Stu grumbles that it wasn't like their kids did anything funny anyway. However, they see Tommy and Angelica doing funny things (such as Angelica wearing Grandpa's glasses and Tommy wearing a quarter as a eyepatch) on the show itself, which makes both brothers scream at the top of their lungs in frustration as the episodes ends.

Goofs[]

  • When the door stops swinging while Stu and Tommy come to their house, the door is missing; it re-appears afterwards.
  • When everybody says "Surprise", Angelica is seen in her normal clothes.
  • A few frames before Stu accidentally steps on a roller skate, an animation cel of Didi is missing.
  • In one scene that shows all the people at Stu's surprise party, Randy's face looks very off model.

Trivia[]

  • This is a parody of America's Funniest Home Videos. The host even resembles the late Bob Saget, the host of that show who had left earlier that year.
  • When Angelica says "I'm ready for my close-up, Mr. DeVille", this is a reference to Sunset Boulevard and Mrs. Doubtfire. (Although, the actual quote was "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my closeup.")
  • The last time this episode (along with "The 'Lympics") aired on Nicktoons is May 30, 2021.
  • Susie appears in this episode, but she doesn't have any lines, though she was exclaiming with delight when Tommy got a quarter, but if one listens closely, it sounds like her voice actress, Cree Summer never recorded anything for her during production. It was proven in the credits as she wasn't listed.
  • When Stu chases Spike (1991) a "Rugratized" version of Gioachino Rossini's "William Tell Overture" (aka the theme from The Lone Ranger) is heard.
